May 6 > May 10

Grade 12 students, tomorrow is the last day that you can hand in your signed permission forms for Last Grad Standing. It will be happening this coming weekend and you do not want to miss out. Please see Ms. Sims or Mr. Paradis for additional information.

All School District of Mystery Lake students and families are invited to enjoy a FREE concert featuring a French Métis duo where the traditional fiddle meets the new age DJ! The concert is happening at the TRCC, Tuesday, May 7th, from 7-8pm. Doors open at 6:30pm. There will be a silver collection. These two artists have been touring Canada and we are very excited to have them in the north. We hope you take advantage of hearing them live!

The badminton team travelled to Winnipeg this weekend and fought a hard battle to wrap up the season. If you follow the R. D. Parker Trojan Athletics Instagram page, you will see that they had a blast. Thank you to our coaches who provided an opportunity for our students beyond badminton. Teamwork, independence and connectedness are skills that they will carry for the rest of their lives. Congratulations to all 10 of our JV and SV individuals/teams that came and gave it their all on the biggest stage for high school badminton.

The Canadian Mental Health Association in Thompson have created a week of events to help bring awareness and support to those who are struggling with mental health. All of the activities are open to the community and everyone is more than welcome to join! They are hoping to have a good turn out and have many community members come and participate in the Walk of Kindness on Thursday, May 9, starting at 1:30 at 43 Fox Bay. Everyone is encouraged to wear green if possible. I will attach the calendar highlighting all events this upcoming week.

On Thursday May 9 we will be holding an information session in the RDPC library for current and new students to the high school French Immersion program and their families. This is an informal opportunity to ask any questions regarding the benefits to graduating with the French Immersion diploma, scheduling questions and other topics that we wish to discuss regarding the French Language programing at the high school. We look forward to seeing you there.

On Wednesday, May 8, R. D. Parker Collegiate will be hosting the second annual Thompson Job Fair and Career Expo right here in our own Trojan Gym from 2:00 – 4:30. Please see the attached poster for additional information.

RDPC is in the process of organizing summer school for interested students wishing to obtain an extra credit to support graduation. We are currently reaching out to families to see if there are students interested in utilizing this program. We would be offering courses in math, English and science. Each course would run for a 3-week period and attendance would be crucial to ensure curriculum is covered. This is only offered to students who have unsuccessfully attempted a course and did not obtain the credit. If you think that your child may be interested, please email brempel@mysterynet.mb.ca.

I would like to say thank you to the curriculum services team at the School District of Mystery Lake along with our Indigenous committee here at RDPC, for organizing the walk this past Thursday in honor of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and two-spirited people across Canada. Today, May 5, marks Red Dress Day, the day to honor the memory of those who have gone missing or have been found murdered, while bringing awareness to the fact that many of these cases remain unsolved. We thank each of you for guiding this work and sharing your wisdom. Together, we want to ensure that the spirit and voice of the missing and murdered will be honored.

That is all for now!

Take care, choose kindness and have a beautiful week.
