Students to Visit World War Battlefields

We are glad to announce that R.D Parker Collegiate has been selected by Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning to be one of the schools that will participate in the Students Visits to World War Battlefields program for the 2026-2027 school year. This program allows Manitoba high school students to participate in a history-focused travel to Western Europe in union with Remembrance Day. The cost of the trip will be covered by the Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning apart from personal expenses. For example, money for shopping. That would have to be covered personally. R. D. Parker will be picking 12 students to go on this trip to Europe. This is only eligible for students that would be in grade 11 and 12 in the 2026-2027 school year. We will be departing at the beginning of November and it will last for approximately 12 days (dates would be confirmed later). Teacher chaperones would be accompanying the students also.

This is a very good opportunity for students to engage in educational traveling. The requirements for students who wish to apply for this trip are:

-75% or better attendance rate in the 2025-2026 school year

-No or minimal discipline

-Credit acquisition will be reviewed

-Have successfully completed History 30F or have selected History 30F for 2026-2027

-Complete a four paragraph (minimum) essay that includes the following details:

(if you require assistance or an alternative format, please see an R. D. Parker administrator.)

  • Canada’s involvement in both World War One and World War Two

  • The value of learning Canadian history

  • How this trip will impact you

  • Any additional information that would make you a strong ambassador to represent RDPC at Remembrance Day ceremonies in Europe

The deadline to submit applications is Monday June 1st 2026 at 3:30pm (at the end of E-block). Students who meet the requirements written above and have their forms submitted by the deadline, will be eligible for the lottery draw. Only students who are selected will be notified.

Additional information:

Students who have signed up for the Vimy 110 trip to Europe (April 2027) can apply for this Canadian Battlefield Europe Trip Lottery. If they are selected, they would be removed from the Vimy 110 trip without any financial penalty. Students are not allowed to travel on both Europe trips.
