May 13 > May 17
This is Bonnie Rempel with your Sunday memo for the week of May 13 - 17.
I just want to share a little information with you about your children if they turn 18 while registered as a student here at RDPC. In accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, FIPPA, R.D. Parker Collegiate cannot release any information to parents or guardians of students who are 18 years of age or older without written consent, this includes all academic progress reports, attendance, behaviour concerns, etc.
I have attached a copy of the “consent to disclose information to parent/guardian” form for you to peek at and discuss with your child. Student profiles become inaccessible to you as a parent/guardian without the completion of this form once your child turns 18. This form can be completed at any time, returned to the school and added to your child’s profile.
Summer School has been confirmed. We will be running two/3-week sessions – English, math and science. Classes will run from 9:00 – 2:30 and students will be asked to bring a lunch. Attendance will matter, as we will need to cover the curriculum content prior to awarding credits. Students are only permitted to register for courses that they have attempted and did not obtain the credit. If you believe that this could be an option for your child, please contact Christine Randell in student services @ 204-677-6228 and she will add you to the list.
The Teacher Mediated Option (TMO) registration is now open for the 2024-2025 School Year.
TMO is a Synchronous Online High School for students in Manitoba. Like InformNet, they partner with schools to help students earn credits that count toward their diploma. Using the Google platform, students from across the province sign into scheduled classes and receive live instruction. It has also proven to be a great option for students with mental health challenges or those who have limited access to their school campus. Courses are $350 each plus a $10 processing fee per student.

We had the second annual Last Grad Standing this weekend and the grade 12 students had a blast. The official last graduate standing for the 2023-24 school year was Logan Cummings. The weekend included a ton of food, nerf wars, basketball, trivia, hide and seek and so much more. Breakfast was served bright and early this morning as we sent all the sleepy eyed students home for an afternoon nap. You should be extremely proud of your children as they were super respectful, polite and did an amazing job of cleaning up. Thank you to Jeff Paradis and Christine Sim for spearheading this last year and making it happen again this year. So many staff members stepped up to ensure it was weekend of fun, and the donations from community members were so appreciated.
On Wednesday, May 15, our grade 9 and 10 students have been invited to participate in the Cycle Breakers Initiative Youth Gathering supported by MKO and KTC from 12:00 – 4:00 at the TRCC’s Gordon Beard Arena. Please see the attached poster for additional information.
On Thursday, May 16, our grade 11 and 12 students will be participating in the Moose Hide Campaign. The Moose Hide Campaign began as a BC-born Indigenous-led grassroots movement to engage men and boys in ending violence towards women and children. It has since grown into a nationwide movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians from local communities, First Nations, governments, schools, colleges/universities, police forces and many other organizations – all committed to taking action to end this violence.
If you are looking for summer employment, Career Trek is looking to hire a coordinator and three counsellors to work in Thompson on Career Education Summer Camps. I will attach the flyers for more details.
Thank you for listening. I hope you had a beautiful weekend, and for those moms and grandmas out there, I hope you had a day surrounded by loved ones.
Take care, choose kindness and have a wonderful week.
