June 3 > June 7

Good evening everyone,

This is Bonnie Rempel with your Sunday memo for the week of June 3 - 7, 2024.

In April of this year, one of our students, Panshul Ghai, competed in the 2024 Manitoba Skills in Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment. After bringing home the gold medal, Panshul qualified to represent Manitoba in the Skills Canada Competition held in Ottawa. Panshul attended this past week with his teacher Mr. Slack, where he crushed the competition and brought home the gold medal and the title of National Champion in Outdoor Power and Recreation Equipment. We are all so very proud of his accomplishments. We would also like to thank Mick Slack for not only creating the Heavy Duty program here at RDPC, but for the time, dedication and commitment to our students. Mr. Slack took the time to travel to Quebec with Panshul to celebrate this triumph with him.

The only day of sunshine for the entire week is tomorrow, the day of our 8th annual Color Run, which is the happiest 3.5K on the planet. We will be celebrating those who make the world brighter, healthier and happier. Tons of smiles and laughter as we have a beautiful afternoon together. You can run or walk, but you are going to get messy, which is all part of the fun! I have attached a map of our route and additional details.

There will be a Safe Grad meeting on Thursday, June 6 @ 7:00 pm in the RDPC library. Students and parents are welcome to attend, as we will be discussing the safe grad evening and making plans for the big event. If you have any questions please reach out to Nadine Tripp at 204-307-1065.

Prom 2024 will take place on Saturday, June 22nd at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall. Tickets for the "Enchanted Forest" event will be available for purchase starting Friday, June 7th in Room 223, between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm. Tickets are $40 each until Friday, June 14th; they will be $45 after this date. The last day to purchase tickets will be Wednesday, June 19th. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door on the evening of the event.

Parents/guardians of students attending prom and prom attendees, please read the attached list of "Prom Guidelines" for your information. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Horvath at shorvath@mysterynet.mb.ca.

Thank you to all students, and their families, who sold 50/50 tickets for prom, as I believe all tickets were sold.

If you are looking for some awesome entertainment, the 39th annual Cabaret will be happening on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 pm here at R. D. Parker Collegiate.

The Exchange Income Corporation will once again be hosting an Every Child Matters event in Winnipeg on September 27, 2024. Calm Air will be partnering with Exchange Income Corporation and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to bring three youth, accompanied by their guardians and another youth of their choosing from each Calm Air community to the Blue Bombers Game on September 27, 2024. This event is open to our grades 9 – 11 students. (17 or under)

Each Guest will be provided with:

  • Return airfare from Thompson to Winnipeg (where Calm Air provides scheduled flights only). Flights are non-transferable and cannot be changed.
  • 2-night stay in Winnipeg (these will be shared accommodations with two beds in each room for 1 chaperone and 2 children/youth aged 5-17)
  • Ticket to the Blue Bombers game on September 27, 2024
  • Group transportation between the airport and hotel on the day of arrival and departure
  • Group transportation between the hotel and the Blue Bombers game
  • Food voucher at the Blue Bombers game

We are inviting all students, who have a guardian who is able to chaperone, to enter into the draw for this amazing opportunity. Ballots are in the main office. We will be selecting the winners Friday, June 7, 2024.

We are down to the wire families as we have 10 remaining school days prior to the start of exams.

Hope you all had a beautiful weekend. Take care, choose kindness and have a beautiful week.

Bonnie Rempel
