Have You Ever Wanted to Visit New York?

In May 2025, 24 R.D. Parker Grade 11 and 12 students will be embarking on a history tour with EF tours. We will be travelling to Washington, D.C., and New York. Over 6 days, these students will learn about the history and culture of Washington, D.C. and New York and understand how our Canadian History is linked with the United States. Canada and United States history fuse together as we will tour significant war memorial sites for battles that we have fought together as allies. Students will gain an awareness of the sacrifices made by our country, and fellow citizens, and an appreciation of how diverse and great we are as a global society.

For the students who have attended trips like these in previous years, they gain so much more knowledge by experiencing history firsthand and taking part in world travel. The trip lends itself to many of the curriculum outcomes found in the following courses: Social Studies Grade 9, Geography Grade 10, and History Grade 11. We will be embarking on guided tours of many significant places such as the FDR Memorial, George Washington’s Tomb, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Smithsonian, the 9/11 National Museum, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial site, plus much more! Visiting these sites transports textbooks to life. The 9/11 Memorial and Korean War Memorial are especially significant to Canadians as we felt the impact of both of these wars in our history, as well as many others. We honour mothers, daughters, sisters and aunts when we visit the Women in Military Service Memorial. Our women who served shall not be forgotten. This is a life-changing trip for many students, which will not only open up their worldview but also allow them to appreciate what is taught in the Manitoba curriculum.
