Brandon Jazz
The Underground Spring Swing Thing, put on by the RDPC Music Department, was a lovely night full of snappy swing tunes. Featuring all of the jazz ensembles RDPC has to offer, the cafeteria was turned into the best jazz club in Thompson. This performance on March 12th preceded their trip to the Brandon University Jazz Festival.
From March 14-17, these ensembles had the chance to travel down to Brandon to compete in the annual Brandon University Jazz Festival. Not only did they get the chance to perform and be professionally adjudicated, but they also got the chance to watch the BU Jazz Ensemble perform and other small groups perform.
On Friday March 15th, Adrenaline Jazz performed “Hay Burner”, “Old Time Ways”, and “Give It All You Got”. Closely followed on March 16th, Intermediate Jazz performed “Moanin’”, “Dorian Journey”, and “Now’s the Time”. These performances went very well—the bands each received praise for their interpretation of each song. Both performances were followed by hour-long clinics for the bands from professional jazz musicians, where the students learned to hone their musical skills for the genre.
Recordings of both the performances can be found on the Thompson Music Parents page on Facebook.
